How Much Do Backlinks Cost in 2026? Prices by DR, Niche and Link Type
Most backlinks cost $100–$250 in 2026. Three large 2026 datasets put the typical guest post at a $112–$140 median, with link insertions about 30% cheaper. Price rises with DR and real organic traffic: expect $30–$70 at DR 10–29 and $300–$700 at DR 70–79. Casino and finance links cost 20–100% more.
Most backlinks sell for $100–$250 in 2026. Three large pricing datasets published this year put the typical guest post at a median of $112–$140. Link insertions run about 30% cheaper. The range is wide: a DR 20 placement can cost $30, while a DR 80 news site can pass $2,500.
This guide breaks down what drives that range, what you should expect to pay at each level, and how to tell a fair price from an inflated one.
What the 2026 data says
Three studies published in 2026 looked at real listings and real orders. They measure slightly different things, which is why the headline numbers differ.
| Study | Sample | What it measures | Typical price |
|---|---|---|---|
| Saaslinks (Aug 2026) | 151,864 listings on 105,258 sites | Seller asking prices | $140 median guest post |
| PressWhizz (Jul 2026) | 22,703 completed orders | What buyers actually paid | $112 median, $164 average guest post; $112 average insertion |
| Adsy (Feb 2026) | 52,671 websites | Asking prices, all niches | $459 average guest post; $225 average insertion |
The averages look much higher than the medians because a small share of premium sites pulls them up. In the Saaslinks data, 38% of listings were under $100 and only 3% were over $1,000. Use the median as your benchmark, not the average.
There is also a big gap between asking and paying. Adsy found the average asking price was $929, while buyers actually paid $207 on average. List prices are a starting point, and most buyers pay far less.
Backlink prices by Domain Rating
DR is still the first thing buyers filter on, and price climbs with it. These are typical per-link prices on the LinksPulse marketplace for a guest post or link insertion:
| Publisher DR | Typical price per link |
|---|---|
| DR 10–29 | $30–$70 |
| DR 30–49 | $60–$150 |
| DR 50–69 | $140–$350 |
| DR 70–79 | $300–$700 |
| DR 80+ | $650–$2,500+ |
Link insertions usually sit at the lower end of each range and guest posts at the higher end.
One finding matters more than the table. In the Saaslinks study, DR 80+ sites had a lower median price ($334) than DR 70–79 sites ($350), and 37% of DR 80+ sites had almost no organic traffic. A high DR on its own does not justify a high price.
Why organic traffic matters more than DR
Real organic traffic is the better predictor of a link's value, and sellers price it in. Saaslinks found median prices rise steadily with traffic:
| Monthly organic visits | Median price |
|---|---|
| Under 1,000 | $117 |
| 1,000–10,000 | $163 |
| 10,000–50,000 | $224 |
| 50,000–250,000 | $269 |
| 250,000–1M | $386 |
| 1M+ | $540 |
Before paying for a high-DR link, check the site's organic traffic trend over the last 6–12 months. A DR 45 site with 12,000 visits from your target country is usually worth more than a DR 70 site with 300.
Backlink prices by niche
Sensitive niches cost more, because fewer publishers accept them and those that do charge a premium.
- Casino and gambling: $252 average guest post in PressWhizz's order data, the highest of any niche they reported.
- Sports: $246 average.
- Finance: $221 average in PressWhizz's data, and $816 average asking price in Adsy's.
- Crypto, CBD, dating and forex: typically carry a 20–100% surcharge over the same site's standard price.
On LinksPulse, the niche surcharge is shown before checkout, so you see the real price for your niche before you pay.
Prices by country
Where a site's traffic comes from changes its price as much as DR does. Saaslinks found an 18x spread between markets:
- Most expensive: Sweden ($420 median), the Netherlands ($372), Germany ($350)
- Mid-range: Australia ($280), Italy ($263)
- Cheapest large markets: US ($130), UK ($144), France ($147)
US and UK links are relatively cheap because the supply of English-language publishers is so large. For Nordic, DACH or Benelux campaigns, budget two to three times more per link.
Guest post vs link insertion: which costs less?
Link insertions (niche edits) cost less because there is no new content to write. PressWhizz's order data shows a $164 average guest post against a $112 average insertion, about 30% less.
That does not make insertions the better buy every time. A guest post gives you control over the topic and anchor text; an insertion goes into a page that is already indexed and may already have links of its own. Most campaigns use both. Our guest post vs niche edit guide explains when each one wins.
What makes a link overpriced
Pay attention to these signs before you order:
- High DR, no traffic. The site's DR is well above what its organic traffic supports.
- Traffic from the wrong country. A UK casino link on a site whose visitors are mostly from India.
- Too many outbound links. Pages with 50 or more outbound links are usually link farms.
- A new page made just for you. Guest posts on sites that publish nothing but sponsored posts pass little value.
- Price far above the tier median without more traffic, relevance or editorial quality to justify it.

What a realistic budget looks like
Your budget depends on how many links you need and at what level. A useful way to scope it:
- Work out how many referring domains you need to compete. Our how many backlinks guide shows the calculation.
- Choose the DR and traffic band that matches your own site. Aim for publishers from about 10 points below to 15 points above your competitors' average linking DR.
- Multiply by the median price for that band and your niche.
For example, 10 links a month at DR 30–49 in a standard niche costs roughly $600–$1,500 a month. The same 10 links for a casino site, at DR 40–60 with a niche surcharge, is more likely $2,000–$4,000.
Build at a steady pace. A consistent 8–15 new placements a month looks more natural to Google than a large burst followed by nothing.

FAQ
How much should I pay for a DR 50 backlink?
Expect $140–$350 for a DR 50–69 guest post or insertion in a standard niche, and more for casino, crypto or finance. Pay closer to the top of that range only when the site has strong organic traffic from your target market.
Are cheap backlinks worth buying?
Some are. A $40 link from a small but real, relevant site with genuine traffic can be a good buy. Links priced far below their DR tier are often on link farms, PBNs or traffic-dead sites, and can hurt more than help.
Why do casino backlinks cost more?
Many publishers refuse gambling content, so fewer sites compete for casino orders, and the ones that accept them charge a premium. In 2026 order data, casino and gambling had the highest average guest post price of any niche.
Is it cheaper to buy backlinks from a marketplace or an agency?
A marketplace is usually cheaper per link, because you pay the listed price with no retainer. An agency charges more but handles site selection, outreach and reporting. Many teams use a marketplace for volume and managed service for their most competitive keywords.
Do backlink prices go up every year?
Generally, yes. Adsy found the average guest post asking price rose 7.5% from 2025 to 2026, with the steepest rises on high-authority sites.
